| cute newborn hat :) great for a girl or boy if u change colors ! |
so i wanted to practice my color changing skills but to keep it simple so i dident over confuse myself so i stuck to two primary colors and used them to experiment and this is what i come up with :)
5.00 mm needles (straight)
dk wool in 2 diffrent colors i used pink and green by stylecraft
darning needle
co 51 stitches
work pattern as follows for 1 inch of ribbing.
in garter stitch.
row 1 ; mc , cc, mc , cc across row alternating colors for each stitch
row 2 - 3 knit all stitches in your mc
row 4- repeat row 1
row 5-6- repeat row 2 - 3
repeat until neccessary till you get an inch of ribbing.
main color block.
you will do this block with the color you ended with , so if ur last stitch was green you would use green wool if your last stitch was pink you would use pink etc.
1. work four rows in stockinette stitch .
top of hat .
1. do four rows in stockinette stitch in cc
2. carry on in stockinette with cc until desired length
3. then do two rows of the pattern called for in row 1 of the ribbing. with 2 blocks of main color in between each row , so do 1 row of the pattern then 2 rows of main color , then another row of the pattern etc.
finishing.
darn in all loose ends.
sew up side seam and top of hat
turn right side out
and add a pom pom :)

Well done. I'm new to knitting and have not yet tried color changing. I hope my first attempt comes out as well as yours. :)
